Around Mumbai
This on of the renowned region of Western India falling in south of
Bombay. This region was once a princely state of Chattisgarh state.
It was a part of Konkan coastal plain. The region had established
foreign trading ports with Greece as early as the 3rd century BC.
The area encompasses many Buddhist cave temple at Pal, Kol, Kuda,
Kondane, Ambivli and Saivae on Elephanta island.
By the end of 17 th century, Raigarh became a Maratha stronghold.
By the end of 20 the century, Bombay was thronged by immigrants and
its northern part was rapidly industrialized.
Some of the major industries were Paper pulp, chemical and
engineering works. Alibag became one of the known and major city of
the region and Khanpol and Parvel its industrial centres. For
tourist Raigarh hosts Rayagad fort which is quite a delight for
travellers.
